The punky story

Punky Allsorts is the self proclaimed Mad Hatter of the Fashion Industry. Here in the land of allsorts it is believed that fashion is frivolous and exciting so we encourage our customers to unlock their inner child, whilst revelling in all that is quirky and tantalisingly divine.

Punky Allsorts was created by Madame Allsorts, Madame is a singer, a songwriter, a performer, and the designer of Punky Allsorts Jewellery.

As well as creating eye popping, jaw dropping accessories Madame writes quirky, hi-energy pop songs. And the lyrics, sharp, observational and personal, well, they really matter.

The songs came first. But there have always been Allsorts. Madame's Nan lived in a windmill and owned a sweet shop in an English country village. A real old fashioned sweet shop, more Willie Wonka than Woolworths, giant glass jars looming so high over a chubby five year old they seemed a forest, packed with chocolate limes and humbugs and wine gums and sherbet lemons and, of course, liquorice allsorts.

Today Madame could be the bride of Frankenstein, the tattered secret love child of Dame Vivienne and Sid Vicious, her hair displaying a rainbow of colour which could rival an explosion at the local paint factory. Tomorrow she may- but that doesn't happen very often - look exactly the same. She's always been that way.

Madame has another name, also beginning with A, but you will have to ask her. "Madame is not a fake character," she says. "She is an extension of me. Obviously there are times when I'm quiet and chilled. But not many as I never rest and I'll never put my feet up and watch Coronation Street without writing 20 million emails ...whilst singing a lyric. She is me...and I am her."

When she was just 14 and already expelled from school for a rebellious attitude and not being part of the identikit "Yes Miss" Gang Madame wanted to see the bright lights of the city. So she ran away to New York. "I walked through Times Square at 6 in the morning completely overwhelmed by tall buildings but having the feeling that anything is possible." Back home in her bedroom she wrote more songs and poems - "another angry little teenager venting myself against the world."- determined to achieve that.

So in my early 20s I went to America to record an album...and ended up running a jewellery business."

Madame wears what she wants, how she wants it and has never been afraid to change everything at the turn of the day. The look of the moment is not for her. She made her own stage clothes and accessories and in LA, the kingdom of the bland and the blonde, they attracted attention. Make-up artists, club goers and women on the beach all wanted to buy her candy bracelets so she started collecting email addresses and telephone numbers.

"It eventually dawned on me this could be something tangible. I set up the business with £100 from my savings and I have never had to borrow anything more. It was burning for a while before it kicked off it. I believe that fashion is about fantasy and all that is magical so my earliest collections were literally sweets, candy coloured jewels. I wanted it to be really bright and fun, something I'd never seen before, and if it was on your wrist people would know. But you can't just do sweets forever. It grew to Scrabble, board games, chess pieces and more recently pop culture favourites."

And success. Punky Allsorts is a favourite with the chic and the cool in London and LA. With a list of fans from Katy Perry, to Cher Lloyd and including Lady Gaga if would be quicker to tell you who's NOT wearing Punky! The Punky club is not exclusive and snooty though, it welcomes all to come inside, it does however insist that you leave your inhibitions at the door , bring out your inner wild child, and embrace all that's magical!
